Erythema multiforme (EM), related to infectious agents (Herpes simplex virus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or idiopathic), is characterized by target lesions and classified as minor or major according to the mucous membrane (MM) involvement. Severe cases can result in significant morbidity, pain, impaired food intake, hospitalization and sequelae.3 Symptomatic treatment is a key point in management of acute flares of EM. The benefit/risk ratio of systemic corticosteroids (SCS) remains controversial. We performed an epidemiological study of severe EM with emphasis on treatment choices, especially SCS.
