ogren syndrome (OR 0 39, 95% CI 0 22–0 71) and AIDS was associated with lower odds of mixed connective tissue disorder (OR 0 12, 95% CI 0 05–0 28). While the association between other systemic diseases and HIV/AIDS is well established, there is a lack of large studies investigating RSSs in HIV/AIDS. Our study provides data regarding the prevalence of RSSs in HIV/AIDS and identifies lower odds for multiple RSSs in PLWHA. Future studies are needed to investigate the mechanisms underlying these findings, as well as to establish the role of factors such as CD4 count and HAART in favouring or preventing the development of RSS in HIV/AIDS.
