Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a complex, multifactorial chronic inflammatory skin disease of uncertain etiology. The peri-pubertal onset, peri-menstrual flares, and predilection for anatomic sites rich in apocrine glands suggest a possible role of sex hormones in pathogenesis, however, details regarding the exact mechanism remain unclear.
