Informed consent is vital prior to any dermatological procedure. However, the approach to consent in dermatological surgery has widespread variation.(1) No formal guidance exists regarding which risks should be routinely consented for. The Montgomery ruling states consent should be individualised to each patient based on consideration of material risks.(2).
