One side of the transparent film is adhesive, thus it can be used to cover the glass window and wrap the metal ring and the front of probe (Fig. 1a,b). The operator must ensure that the transparent film is adhered firmly to the glass window, without trapping any small air bubbles between the glass and film, which can affect the clarity and quality of image (Fig. 2). In addition, selection of a transparent film with good light transmittance is essential. We generally inform patients at examination that the use of the disposable sterile film is to prevent crossinfection. This simple technique can supply a hygienic surface for RCM examination and prevent contamination and crossinfection, particularly when examining infectious dermatoses, mucous membranes or broken skin.
