Arginine vasopressin (AVP) is released upon osmotic stimulation or hypovolaemia in order to maintain water balance. A recent study showed a role of AVP in haematopoiesis by stimulating red blood cell precursors, suggesting a higher risk of anaemia in patients with AVP deficiency.
