One important factor to improve tympanoplasty outcome is to prevent the graft from falling away from the edges of perforation. Areolar tissue can be harvested from superfacial temporal fascia. Areolar tissue can be used as a natural "tissue glue" between graft and tympanic membrane (TM) remnant to help adherence. Using areolar tissue during tympanoplasty seems an effective technique to improve TM closure. The success rate of tympanoplasty does minimally deteriorate with time.
