The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health maintains the FROD. The register contains both recognized and suspected cases of occupational diseases determined by private insurance institutions. The register comprises data on occupation, type of industry, and up to three causes of occupational skin disease and the respective diagnoses. One case can have up to three different skin diagnoses, for example allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), irritant contact dermatitis (ICD), and protein contact dermatitis. Since 2005, we have been able to identify cases that have been recognized as occupational diseases by the insurance company. Data on 7% of the recognized cases are unclear as regards diagnosis and the respective cause. The unclear data probably derive from earlier stages of the process, and do not include the final recognized diagnosis. Boat builders are not included as such in the Finnish Classification of Occupations 2010 (2) [based on ISCO-08 (3)], but they are classified according to their specific tasks, such as ‘Carpenters and joiners’ (code 7115), ‘Cabinet-makers and related workers’ (7522), ‘Upholsterers and related workers’(7534), or ‘plastic products
