Laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME) is the standard of care for resectable rectal cancer [1,2]. The quality of oncological resection and short term benefits have improved with skilled laparoscopic surgery [1,2]. Performing laparoscopic TME and sphincter preservation in low rectal cancer is technically demanding. Adaptation to standard surgical technique would help in better oncological outcomes.
