A 56-year-old female patient was admitted to the emergency department due to dyspnoea, cough and chest pain. Tachycardia and hypotension were noted in the physical examination. Her body temperature was normal. An x-ray thoracic image showed the existence of a pericardial effusion (Figure 1), which was subsequently confirmed by echography; 800 mL of haemorrhagic fluid was obtained through a pericardiocentesis.
