The cervical esophagus is the short part of the esophagus between the lower border of the cricoid cartilage and the thoracic inlet (suprasternal notch), and is ~18 cm from the incisor teeth [1]. Difficulties are associated with observing the cervical esophagus using an endoscope because the lumen is narrow. These difficulties are compounded in non-sedated patients by the vomiting and swallowing reflexes. Therefore, observations of the cervical esophagus in non-sedated esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) are very challenging. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
