Personal protective equipment (PPE) is crucial in the COVID-19 epidemic[1] but muffle speech, with potential for medical error. While wearing Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) adds 76 Db of background noise to the user[2], objectively quantifying this effect remains a knowledge gap with implications on human factors[3] and safety.
