On World Diabetes Day, NHS England announced an end to the postcode lottery around accessing the FreeStyle Libre within England. This matches decisions already taken in Northern Ireland, Wales and most of Scotland, where the Libre is already available. The decision is certainly welcome but does not mean that the device will be available to all people with Type 1 diabetes and, in fact, it is estimated that only 20–25% of people with Type 1 diabetes will be able to access the device on prescription using the current criteria in England.
