study would suggest that the improvement in exercise capacity combined with diabetes dietetic input improved glucose levels. This present study has several limitations. First, the patients who were still waiting the surgery or decided not to go ahead for surgery were not included. Second, there was no control group to compare postoperative outcome such as complication rate and length of hospital stay. In conclusion, this study has shown that it is possible to optimise glycaemic control while waiting for cardiac surgery and that there was a legacy effect post- surgery. We believe that healthcare needs more effective engagement with patients and should provide a more tailored approach to support self- management.
