To the Editor: This dual event of the 16th Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology and the 23rd Asian-Australasian Regional Conference of Dermatology held August 8–11, 2018 brought together world dermatology luminaries. Attendees enjoyed dynamic Surabaya with its East Javan vitality, welcomed by Indonesian Society of Dermatology President M. Yulianto “Wawan” Listiawan and Asian Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AADV) President and Conference President Syarief Hidayat (Indonesia). Their organizational skills were honored at the opening ceremony by International Society of Dermatology Director Robert A. Schwartz (Figure 1). Superb lectures ensued. Giuseppe Micali (Italy) stressed the value of dermatoscopy, correlating findings with clinical and histologic ones, as he noted the large tortuous papillary dermal capillaries of psoriasis appear as red dots or “bushes” 70–100 μm in diameter. Medical ethics as a protective measure for dermatology advancement was evinced by M. Yulianto Listiawan, whereas emerging challenges in South East Asian Dermatology were highlighted by Syarief Hidayat. Cambodian Society of Dermatology President Chan Vicheth analyzed new and emerging skin disorders in HIV patients. Vietnamese Society of Dermatology President and AADV Deputy President Prof. Tran Hau Khang elaborated therapeutic options for pemphigus and pemphigoid. Stephan Lautenschlager (Switzerland) lamented that tinea genitalis, a newly emphasized clinical pattern, is often challenging to diagnose, with risk factors identified as genital shaving, residing in tropic climates, and probable sexual transmission. AADV Secretary-General Steven Kim Weng Chow (Malaysia) discussed primary candida onychomycosis. Hasan Galadari (UAE) traced the evolution of fillers in aesthetic dermatology. Endang Sutedja (Indonesia) underscored the role of HLA genes as genomic biomarkers of predisposition to severe drug eruptions. Robert A. Schwartz (USA) emphasized DRESS syndrome and its dreaded complications, particularly late cardiac ones. Kiran Godse (India) recommended newer agents such as dupilumab and apremilast be reserved as fourth line treatment for severe atopic
