Dear Editor, Follicular mucinosis (FM) is a rare inflammatory condition with external root sheath mucin deposition. FM typically occurs as a primary benign idiopathic disorder manifesting with follicular papules and indurated plaques. FM variants include secondary FM, associated with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), and urticaria-like FM, presenting as pruritic waxing-and-waning facial lesions. Acneiform FM is an uncommon variant characterized by painless acneiform papules on the face, neck, trunk, and arms. Although acneiform FM may resolve spontaneously within several years, treatment is often desired. We describe an adolescent who experienced near clearance of acneiform FM with combination treatment of topical retinoids, oral dapsone, and lesional narrowband UVB (nbUVB) phototherapy.
