Pericytes are key components of the blood brain barrier (BBB) and are involved in major neurological disorders including stroke. Now, Sun and colleagues demonstrate that transplantation of pericytes reconstructs the BBB integrity and enhances functional recovery following stroke. These results have important implications for future cell-based therapy in the injured brain.
