cussed in 13% of videos. Dermatologist videos were more likely to discuss systemic conditions than patient/blogger videos (0.31 vs. 0, respectively; P = 0.001) and as likely to discuss systemic conditions as nondermatologist physician videos (0.31 vs. 0.15, respectively; P = 0.14). The most common therapies discussed included moisturizing creams/lotions, oral antihistamines, and topical steroids being endorsed in 28%, 22%, and 20% of videos, respectively. Dermatologist videos contained more recommendations per video for oral therapies than patient/bloggers videos (0.62 vs. 0.11, respectively; P < 0.001) and the same number of recommendations per video for oral therapies as nondermatologist physician videos (0.62 vs. 0.62, respectively; P = 0.50). In contrast, patient/blogger videos contained a greater number of recommendations per video for complementary and alternative (CAM) therapies, such as aloe vera, vinegar, and oats, than dermatologist (1.14 vs. 0.12, respectively; P < 0.001) or nondermatologist physician videos (1.14 vs. 0.31, respectively; P = 0.01). Overall, there were 150 total recommendations for medical therapies and 103 total recommendations for CAM therapies, suggesting that natural remedies are heavily emphasized in patient education for itch on YouTube. YouTube offers a range of medical explanations and therapies for itch. Dermatologists were more commonly represented for itch on YouTube than for other dermatological conditions such as acne and rosacea. Itch can have a significant impact on quality of life, leading patients to seek medical advice on social media. CAM therapies are numerous in this space, and patients desperate for relief are likely to try such therapies at home. In conclusion, dermatologists should continue to utilize social media to provide high-quality information for common dermatological conditions such as itch.
