Urodynamic study (UDS) is the gold standard for evaluating bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, it is invasive and painful; therefore, a simple examination that could replace UDS would be useful. One alternative method is to measure bladder wall thickness (BWT) using transrectal or transabdominal ultrasonography, as it is reportedly positively correlated with BOO. 1 – 4 However, the correlation between BWT at various bladder volumes and BOO remains unknown.
