Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the most common form of dysglycaemia during pregnancy. GDM is defined as hyperglycemia diagnosed for the first time during pregnancy, most commonly during the second or third trimester. GDM can be harmful to both the mother and the offspring. Complications to fetuses include excessive birthweight and preterm birth, while women with GDM are more susceptible to gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, and postpartum abnormal glucose intolerance (pAGT).
