Preparation of recipient site plays a pivotal role in the outcome of vitiligo surgery. Common techniques of recipient site preparation in non-cultured epidermal cell suspension (NCES) include conventional manual dermabrasion (CMD) using Manekshaw's dermabrader, motorized dermabrasion and dermabrasion using carbon-dioxide laser. Reports of using ball tip electrode of radiofrequency in cutting/ coagulation mode and timed surgery (programmed diathermosurgery) for recipient site preparation also exist in literature.
