To the editor - The molecular mechanisms underlying the trade-off between plant growth and responses to the ever-changing environment are poorly understood. We previously revealed a phosphorylation-based regulatory loop between the plant stress hormone abscisic acid (ABA) and the central growth regulator Target of Rapamycin (TOR) (Wang et al., 2018). Under normal conditions, TOR kinase phosphorylates ABA receptors (PYR1/PYL/RCARs) to abolish their ABA binding ability, thereby preventing stress signaling activation and promoting plant growth.
