Expected benefits of modified ultrafiltration (MUF) include increased hematocrit, reduction of total body water and inflammatory mediators, improved left ventricular systolic function, and improved systolic blood pressure and cardiac index (CI) following cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This prospective randomized trial tested this hypothesis.
