The article “ Evaluation of analgesic and sedative effects of remifentanil ‐ based fast ‐ track anesthesia in children undergoing transthoracic device closure of ventricular septal defects ” by Xu et al. has been read with a great deal of interest. 1 It was a pleasure to read such a well ‐ written piece; we applaud the authors' efforts. We concur with the article's conclusion that remifentanil ‐ based cardiac anesthesia can be used safely and effectively in children undergoing transthoracic device closure of VSDs with adequate analgesic and sedative effects and can shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU stay, and hospitalization.
