In this editorial, I want to discuss a number of initiatives that the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (JPMHN) editorial team has undertaken to promote openness and transparency in academic publishing. They include improving timelines, enforcing trial registration, mandating reporting guidelines, requiring conflict of interest declarations and introducing registered reports. In my view, the changes we have made over the past few years have helped enhance the reputation of the JPMHN as a leading international nursing science journal.
