The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an enveloped virus with a positive-senseRNA genome of ~ 9.6 kDa in length. In the body, circulating HCV genomes are highly variable due to the rapidity of RNA virus evolution by error-prone RNA-dependent RNA polymerases, so they exist as quasispecies.
