We read with great interest the article by Xin et al[1] regarding the association between albuminuria and incident of NAFLD and fibrosis. The authors evaluated 3308 without NAFLD at recruitment and they found that low grade albuminuria was independently associated with incident NAFLD and a higher probability of fibrosis. However, the authors did not take into account several other well-established factors, which have been associated with the presence of albuminuria, such as cardiac systolic/diastolic dysfunction, visceral obesity and concomitant medication.
