In this issue, van der Goot and colleagues take an appreciative look at how trainee motivation is supported by aspects of the clinical workplace.1 They identify four dimensions of the clinical learning environment which interact to facilitate trainee motivation: social interactions, organizational features, technical possibilities and physical space. When describing each dimension, the authors demonstrate bidirectional influence between the environment and trainees.
