Increased representation of Indigenous peoples within medicine has been identified as a key priority in improving health equity. In response, medical schools have undertaken initiatives to address applicationspecific barriers to pursuing medical education, including dedicated application streams and designated seats. These initiatives overlook upstream barriers that Indigenous individuals face in the pursuit of health care education. Initiatives that spark an interest and provide early opportunities for mentorship are crucial in addressing perceived barriers to health care education among youth from underrepresented populations.1
