We sought to improve the following outcomes: (1) helping MS3's feel ‘in the loop’ about patients they are following; (2) enabling MS3's to engage with real-time patient care issues and take appropriate action; (3) preparing MS3's for acting internship where they assume more first-call responsibilities. The residents on the medical teams continued to hold primary responsibility for returning the pages, and MS3's were encouraged to check in with their residents to return pages that were within the scope of their training.
