Conventional classroom-based teaching does not foster learning competencies like professionalism, leadership, critical thinking and communication. Learners need to be consciously encouraged to learn these skills. Ethics and critical decision-making skills are significant building blocks for professionalism, and critical thinking is a key element of the decision-making process. Although undergraduate medical students are exposed to the theoretical framework of medical ethics, there is no opportunity for them to apply their decision-making skills to ethical dilemmas.
