The 2017 World Health Organization (WHO) classification of odontogenic and maxillofacial bone tumours has fully endorsed the definition of keratocystic odontogenic tumours as odontogenic keratocysts (OKC). OKCs have been acknowledged as benign intraosseous odontogenic cysts lined with parakeratinized stratified squamous epithelium, demonstrating a locally aggressive and infiltrative behaviour, with frequent recurrences. These features have sparked off a lively debate about OKC classification and nomenclature (Nayak et al, 2013; El-Naggar et al, 2017).
