Food challenge is a vital part of pediatric allergy practice. It remains the gold standard of food allergy diagnosis and places a high demand on health resources. With a challenge proven rate of food allergy in Australian children around 10% (1) an exclusively tertiary care centered approach is unsustainable. With thousands of kilometers between patients and tertiary pediatric hospitals many food challenges are undertaken at peripheral sites. We aimed to gather data prospectively from 8 pediatric centres around New Zealand and compare challenge outcomes with those conducted in Starship Children's Hospital, the only New Zealand tertiary pediatric centre.
