Polymicrobial bloodstream infections (PBSI) have been reported in patients with chronic disease and/or the presence of medical devices; these infections usually have a high mortality rate. Coagulase-negative staphylococci, Enterococcus spp., Klebsiella spp., and Candida spp. are commonly reported in PBSI. PBSI involving Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae in a previously healthy child, however, has not been previously reported. Here, we report a very rare case of a previously healthy child with S. pneumoniae and H. influenzae bloodstream infection.
