Language-concordant care—interactions where the patient and healthcare worker speak the same language—improves health outcomes, access to health information and patients experience of care. Language concordance is also the ‘window to broader social determinants of health’ (https://bmcmededuc. biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12909-019-1807-4). I was keenly reminded of this with three recent clinical encounters.
