As recently reported in this journal, African swine fever (ASF) is an emerging threat to the Asian pig industry (Zhou et al., 2018, Kim et al., 2020, Ito et al., 2020, Wang et al., 2020). This disease threatens the local meat supply and has caused a significant economic loss in Asia. On March 27th 2020, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) announced Thailand's first African horse sickness (AHS) outbreak, demonstrating a new threat to Asia (https://www.oie.int/wahis_2/public/wahid.php/Reviewreport/Review?reportid=33768).
