Can you explain your research to a non-scientist, or even a 7th grader in 90 seconds or less—and explain it in a way that’s engaging and understandable? Communicating science to an audience of non-scientists requires a very different skill set than giving a successful talk to a conference or exchanging ideas with peers or colleagues. Effective science communication skills are important to have—you’re providing lay audiences with accurate and reliable science information, while protecting the public from misinformation, and also influencing public policy and inspiring a sense of wonder in non-scientists. This talk is targeted for a broad audience of scientists who would like to learn how science communication skills will improve their ability to promote their research and get more media attention.
