Bodhankar et al. reported a noncanonical sensing mechanism that involves signal interaction with the McpA chemoreceptor signaling domain resulting in a chemorepellence response of Bacillus subtilis. The identified repellent binding site is analogous to that for attractant binding in McpB, another B. subtilis chemoreceptor. ABSTRACT Bodhankar et al. reported a noncanonical sensing mechanism that involves signal interaction with the McpA chemoreceptor signaling domain resulting in a chemorepellence response of Bacillus subtilis. The identified repellent binding site is analogous to that for attractant binding in McpB, another B. subtilis chemoreceptor.
