In an electron energy analyzer, a “spiratron,” whose dispersing element is a coaxial cylindrical capacitor, analyzed electrons are introduced into the capacitor at an angle of 45° to the axis of the cylinders and move under the action of a deflecting electric field along spiral trajectories (in the direction of the axis of the cylinders). A theoretical analysis of the motion of electrons in the field of a spiratron was carried out, the distributions of electrons at energies of the primary electron beam of 4–14 eV were calculated, a prototype was manufactured, and its parameters were investigated. The high resolution of the spiratron has been experimentally confirmed by the study of electron scattering by cadmium atoms.
