Delay of a superradiance pulse of an ensemble of identical atoms in a half-excited state has been detected. No such delay has been detected for an ensemble of fully excited atoms. These effects are due to the nonresonant interaction of a localized atomic ensemble with vacuum broadband environment, which is disregarded within the traditional Dicke model but is taken into account within the generalized Dicke model.
