The species inhabits tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Indian and western and central parts of the Pacific oceans, where it is found between about 40° N and 30°–40° S, in the Pacific Ocean, eastwards to ~130° W (probably east). Habitat depths are from 25 to 1500 m.
