Abstract Wide adaptive capabilities of fish introduced into new water bodies are shown by the example of vendace Coregonus albula and European smelt Osmerus eperlanus . Analysis of monitoring studies has shown that invading species are able to change their morphology and mode of life up to the formation of new ecological forms compared to the original population, which are known in the species in other areas of their habitat. New data have been obtained on the structure and functioning of aquatic ecosystems under the changing conditions.
