Sputtering yields and their angular dependences for tungsten bombarded with beryllium (Be) and neon (Ne) ions were calculated using the molecular dynamics method, showing good agreement with experiment for Ne–W collisions. Data for the Be–W interaction are necessary for calculating the impurity supply during bombardment of the diverter material (W) into plasma of the ITER tokamak. A model is proposed that explains universal behavior of the sputtering yields of tungsten in the near-threshold region during bombardment by light ions.
