Abstract The application of the method of the generalized scattering matrix for the analysis of finite dimension antenna arrays consisting of slotted and ribbon radiators is considered. The scheme of the method based on expanding the electromagnetic field into vector spherical waves in the local coordinate system connected with an extracted array element is presented. The algorithm of expanding the fields of spherical waves specified in one local coordinate system into the waves specified in other local coordinate systems is numerically realized. It is shown that the obtained expansion coefficients are invariant to the type of the array element and to the array configuration. Solution algorithms for problems of excitation of slotted and ribbon radiators by vector spherical waves are analyzed. Examples of application of the method developed in the work for analyzing various types of arrays are given. The following types of arrays are considered: the array of ribbon vibrators, the array of slotted radiators excited by waveguide cavities, and the slotted waveguide array. The results of comparison with calculations in standard systems of electromagnetic modeling are given. It is shown that the suggested algorithm of the solution of the boundary value problem for an array having large electrical dimensions is computationally efficient and this efficiency many times exceeds the efficiency of standard systems applied for electromagnetic modeling.
