A three-dimensional (3D) inversion of the components of magnetotelluric impedance matrix is used for constructing a geoelectric model of the Altai-Sayan region. Based on the model and empirical data, the possibilities of three-dimensional inversion of all the four components of the impedance matrix and its invariant values are studied. The model values of the impedance matrices obtained by solving the inverse problem by interactive fitting the 3D model invariant curves of apparent electrical resistivity to the experimental curves for the central part of the Altai–Sayan region were used as the test data. The high conductivity anomalies obtained by 3D inversion are correlated with the locations of earthquake sources, deep faults, domains of increased attenuation of the converted waves from the earthquakes, and low velocities of P-waves in the deep seismic sounding and earthquake converted waves methods.
