Abstract The regularities of structure formation of dispersion strengthened composite aluminum powders have been studied using transmission electron microscopy and X-ray structural analysis during reactive mechanical alloying in the presence of stearic acid. It has been established that the treatment is accompanied by mechanochemical transformations forming phase composition and structure in particles of composite powder. The formed fine structure is characterized by high stability, and subsequent annealing of powdered compositions at temperatures close to aluminum melting point does not lead to its significant modification.
