A 23-day-old male infant presented with fever (38°C), associated with rhinorrhoea, conjunctivitis and cough. An exuberant eruption was noted on the face, trunk and limbs in the preceding 24 hours. His mother was Irish and his father was Sudanese. On examination, there were extensive urticarial weals with bruising on the face, trunk and limbs (figure 1). Some lesions were targetoid.
