Failings by a company contracted by the government to transfer important medical records onwards has led to around 1700 cases where patients could have been harmed as a result, the public spending watchdog has concluded. The National Audit Office published its report on 27 June after it looked into how NHS Shared Business Services handled unprocessed clinical correspondence.1 The agency, a joint venture between the Department of Health for England and the French IT company Sopra Steria, was contracted by the government to run some back-office operations in the NHS in England.1 Large amounts of important data on patients, including test results and diagnoses, were delayed in error between 2011 and 2016 by Shared Business Services before they were delivered …
