China’s regulatory authorities have taken disciplinary action against 486 researchers found to have committed misconduct in a peer review scandal that rocked Chinese science. The publisher Springer Nature announced in April that one of its journals, Tumor Biology , was retracting 107 papers because of fake peer reviews.1 Springer’s investigation found that some authors, who were allowed to suggest potential reviewers and forward their email addresses, had provided addresses leading to companies that offered fake peer reviews.
