Use of the epilepsy drug lamotrigine during pregnancy does not increase the risk of birth malformations or neurodevelopmental disorder, according to research published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology .1 The study, which assessed neurodevelopmental symptoms up to the age of 12 years, is the most extensive long term report regarding children whose mothers took lamotrigine during pregnancy. Lamotrigine has a good tolerability and safety profile, but is known to cross the placenta. …
